Best of Portsmouth Tour

Spend an afternoon tasting your way through

some of Portsmouth’s most popular restaurants!

Save up your appetite for this Saturday so you can enjoy delicious fare on a tour of some of the Seacoast’s finest restaurants! The “Best of Portsmouth Tour'' takes you to the 5 “Best” restaurants as declared by culinary experts such as Man v. Food, Phantom Gourmet, and more! Enjoy an afternoon full of flavor, stories, laughter and the stunning views of this picturesque New England town!

To keep you in suspense, the restaurant lineup for the tour is being kept under wraps until you arrive; in the meantime, we wanted to share our favorites from each category!

Best Chowder in New England

There are so many amazing chowders throughout New England, but in our opinion, you will find the best chowder at the Rye Lobster Pound. Don’t be alarmed by the unassuming appearance of Rye Lobster Pound, what is in store for you inside is the freshest lobster bisque and their claim to fame “fluffy chowder.” You might be thinking “What on earth is fluffy chowder?” Fluffy means the chowder is enhanced with chunks of sherry-sopped lobster meat, transforming a regular seafood chowder into a luxurious comfort food!

Phantom Gourmet Recommended

Phantom Gourmet has visited many phenomenal Seacoast restaurants, but one of our all-time favorites is Cure. Cure is a comfortable neighborhood spot serving flavorful comfort food in a warm and inviting environment. If Cure is not included on your tour, we highly recommend you give it a try! Get the duck…you won’t be disappointed!

Man vs. Food Dinner Pick

If we had to guess which Man vs. Food destination you’ll visit during the Portsmouth Food Tour, we would guess you’re going to Gilley’s Diner. Gilley’s Diner is a renovated trolly tucked into an alley downtown, but don’t let its appearance fool you. Gilley’s is known for its nostalgic 1940’s decor and serving up traditional diner food including hamburgers and steamed hotdogs. Gilley’s was also voted Best Late Night Eats in 2019.

Chef Choice:

Now, we are certainly not chefs over here, but we know a good meal when we taste it. Our “chef” pick of the week goes to The Green Elephant. What is not to love?! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The Green Elephant offers a diverse menu of Thai vegetarian and vegan dishes that meat lovers will drool over! We highly recommend trying the Thai Basil Fried Rice and the Vegetable Dumplings.

Dessert:

If you saved room for dessert, head over to Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream Shoppe for some of the best ice cream around! They have a selection of seasonal flavors (which are all exceptional) and also a huge selection of flavors that they offer year-round. Take your ice cream to go, or stick around and watch the boats sail along the Piscataqua River!
